You use them to transfer a laser or copier printed image (with toner) to
the stamp material zess!

Oh, the blending pen has xylene? Is that it?

How is that better than just ironing it on?

The image is not as good as the ironing on, it can be blurry if you have
a pen that's too wet, or not complete if it's too dry.
However, I think that the ironing changes the texture of the surface of
the carving medium. Just personal choice I guess.

I use Xylene and also iron, on low heat. Be careful not to touch the iron to bare rubber.

I print them out onto tracing paper, go ove the paper with pencil and then rub that off onto the carving material. Then go over everything with ballpoint before carving. No heat or chemicals for me.

That is exactly what I have begun doing. I used to draw directly on
the material, but I have a couple of backwards stamps because of that
idea. I use plain old copy paper and just trace over the printed
image. If done caefully, you get a great image on the material with
the lead alone. I don't use a pen after that, I like that the lead can
be rubbed away and changed if necessary, and it gives me a nice clean
look when I am done and begin stamping. I found that all of the pens I
have tried, including sharpies, transfer when stamping. The ink seems
to reactivate even weeks later.
I also like the imperfect lines created with a little artistic freedom
and fewer lines to follow.
